Settings
Configure backup, update, and connectivity settings for your Miniserver
The Settings tab is the central place to configure how Exosphere manages your Miniserver. It covers backup scheduling, update behavior, credential storage, and device metadata.
Permissions Required
The Settings tab is only visible to users with Editor permissions or higher on the Miniserver.
Layout
The Settings tab is split into two columns:
- Left column: Operational settings (Backup, Update, Danger Zone, License, Plugin Logging)
- Right column: Device information, Keychain (credentials), and Usage statistics
Backup Settings
Control whether automatic backups are enabled for this Miniserver.
Toggle: "Automatic backups"
- Enable or disable automatic backups of the Miniserver configuration.
- The effective setting can be inherited from the parent structure element or the workspace. When inheriting, the toggle shows the source (e.g., "Backups enabled (inherited from workspace)").
- Override the inherited setting by toggling manually. Use "Reset to default" to return to the inherited value.
Backup Schedule:
When automatic backups are active, the schedule (daily, weekly, or monthly) and the configured time are displayed below the toggle.
Miniserver Permissions
The Exosphere user on the Miniserver needs the Miniserver Backup permission. If this permission is missing, a warning banner is shown.
Update Settings
Configure how firmware updates are applied to this Miniserver.
Automatic Update
Toggle: "Automatic Update"
- Enable or disable automatic firmware updates.
- Inherits from the parent element or workspace, same as backup settings.
- Use "Reset to default" to return to the inherited value.
Update Level
Dropdown: Select the firmware channel.
| Channel | Description |
|---|---|
| Release | Stable, production-ready firmware |
| Beta | Pre-release with new features, may be less stable |
| Alpha | Early development builds, expect instability |
Alpha and Beta Warning
Selecting Alpha or Beta shows a confirmation dialog warning that these versions may be unstable and are not recommended for production environments.
Use Latest Update Level
When the channel is set to Release, an additional toggle appears:
Toggle: "Use Latest Update Level"
Enable this to always update to the latest release version automatically.
Version Information
- Installed Version: The firmware currently running on the Miniserver.
- Newer version available: Shown when an update is available in the selected channel.
Update Prerequisites
Automatic updates require the Miniserver to be connected, licensed, and the Exosphere user to have upgrade permissions. Miniservers with a Client gateway role cannot be updated automatically.
Danger Zone
Destructive Actions
Actions in this section can disconnect the Miniserver from Exosphere. Use with caution.
The Danger Zone card (highlighted with a red border) contains actions that affect the Miniserver's connection to Exosphere.
Deactivate Exosphere
Button: "Deactivate Exosphere on the Miniserver"
Removes the Exosphere connector from the Miniserver and disconnects it from Exosphere. The Miniserver will no longer be monitored or managed.
- Requires the Miniserver to be connected.
- May require a sudo challenge (Miniserver admin credentials).
Restart Exosphere Connector
Button: "Restart Exosphere Connector"
Restarts the Exosphere connector process on the Miniserver. Use this to recover from a stuck or unhealthy connector. The connector will reconnect automatically after a few moments.
- Only visible to Administrators.
- Requires the Miniserver to be connected.
License
Shows the current license status of the Miniserver:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Licensed | Miniserver is fully licensed |
| Trial | Trial period active — shows expiration date |
| Unlicensed | No active license — some features are restricted |
Button: "Manage licenses" — navigates to the workspace subscription settings.
Plugin Logging
Availability
This section only appears when the Exosphere connector is installed on the Miniserver and the firmware version meets the minimum requirement.
Capture Exo connector logs from the Miniserver for debugging and support.
Logging Controls
- Log Level: Info, Error, or Debug
- Duration: 1–7 days (Debug is limited to 1 day)
- Start/Stop: Start or stop logging at any time. When active, shows the expiration date.

- Click "Fetch log from Miniserver" to retrieve the log file.
- Once ready, click "Save log file" to download it locally.
- Use "Re-fetch from Miniserver" to get an updated log file.
Miniserver Information
Edit device metadata and view read-only system information.
Editable fields:
