Create Alerts from Existing Views

Start an alert rule from Inventory, charts, dashboards, and Function Block Sets

Some Exosphere views provide Create alert as a contextual action. Use it when you are already looking at the control, chart series, dashboard panel, or Function Block Set that should become the alert source.

The rule editor opens with the source preselected. You still need to configure the condition, severity, channel, and recipients before saving.

Where Create Alert Is Available

Create an Alert from a Function Block

  1. Navigate to Inventory → Function Blocks.
  2. Find the Function Block.
  3. Open the row actions.
  4. Click Create alert.
  5. Configure the condition.
  6. Configure the alert channel and recipients.
  7. Click Save.

If the Function Block has exactly one eligible source, Exosphere selects it automatically. If the Function Block has multiple eligible sources and no default source can be determined, create the rule from Alerts → Rules and choose the source manually.

Create an Alert from a Function Block Set

  1. Navigate to Inventory → Function Block Sets.
  2. Find the Function Block Set.
  3. Open the row actions.
  4. Click Create alert.
  5. Configure the condition.
  6. Configure the alert channel and recipients.
  7. Click Save.

Use this when the same condition should apply to a group of similar Function Blocks, such as all office temperatures, all HVAC zones, or all relevant meters.

Create an Alert from a Chart

  1. Open the chart.
  2. Open the context menu for the chart area, data point, legend item, or series.
  3. Click Create alert.
  4. Review the preselected source.
  5. Configure the condition, severity, channel, and recipients.
  6. Click Save.

The action is available only when Exosphere can identify an eligible sensor from the selected chart context.

Create an Alert from a Dashboard Panel

  1. Open the dashboard.
  2. Find the chart panel.
  3. Open the panel menu or expanded section menu.
  4. Click Create alert.
  5. Review the preselected source.
  6. Configure the condition, severity, channel, and recipients.
  7. Click Save.

The action is available for chart panels where Exosphere can identify one eligible numeric sensor.

Eligibility

The Create alert action is shown only when all required conditions are met:

  • The Telemetry Alerts feature is enabled for the workspace
  • You have edit permission
  • The selected source can be used for telemetry alerting
  • For Function Blocks, charts, and dashboard panels, Exosphere can identify one eligible sensor

Eligible sensors are normally analog or digital telemetry sources. Sources marked as discrete state values are not used for contextual alert creation.
