Settings Hierarchy and Inheritance

How Inheritance Works

Levels (from highest to lowest):

  1. Workspace (Root): Default for entire workspace
  2. Structure Element: Folder/group settings
  3. Device: Individual Miniserver settings

Inheritance Rules:

  • Settings cascade from parent to child
  • Child can override parent settings
  • "Inherit from parent" toggle controls inheritance
  • Visual indicators show setting source

Example Hierarchy:

Workspace (Root)
  └── Daily backup at 03:00
      ├── Production Folder
      │ └── Inherits daily backup
      │ ├── Device A: Inherits daily backup
│ └── Device B: Overrides to weekly backup
      └── Test Folder
            └── Overrides to monthly backup
└── Device C: Inherits monthly backup

To Override Parent Settings:

  4. Parent settings remain unchanged elsewhere
